This month we sat down with longtime friend of NAGHEDI  Lainy Hedaya. One of the original style bloggers, Lainy is the Founder and Creative Director of Haute Inhabit Studio, a multidisciplinary studio specializing in branding and interior design. We spoke about the evolution of her brand, juggling work and motherhood, and the sage advice she would give a fellow founder.

QUESTION 01

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY.

I am a designer and strategist. I also work with brands to create content. I always loved design; I was the kid that handed in my tests with no answers, just drawings. I went to LIM College and started with a merchandising degree, and quickly switched to Visual Merchandising. After 15 years of doing influencer work, I re-launched my blog into a design studio for interior design and brand identity. I was the first to merge this model in a studio. Over time, my friends who hired interior designers for their homes called me to make decisions for them, so I added residential to the studio services as well.

QUESTION 02

AS A FOUNDER, WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'D GIVE TO SOMEONE TRYING TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN?

Build systems and processes before your launch. Understand the market you’re entering especially if you are in the service business. Don’t let people tell you something is too hard, especially if it excites you. Work with good and honest people. Have fun.

“I like more traditional design, sometimes with an edge, even with my brand clients. Permanence is an important design element of mine, and it shows in my outfits from ten years ago—nothing is ever too trendy. It’s always timeless and chic.”
QUESTION 03

WITH SO MANY ROLES—PROFESSIONALLY AND AS A BUSY MOM—HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR DAYS?

I leave room for chaos and I do most of my design work when the kids are asleep. The days are for admin, social media, and meetings. I have also had to be real about the volume I take in, and what’s reasonable, so it’s better for me to take less but larger projects so I can focus fully on a client.

WHERE DO YOU LOVE TO TRAVEL WITH YOUR FAMILY IN SUMMER, AND WHAT'S ALWAYS IN YOUR BAG WHEN YOU GO?

I am fortunate to live in a lovely summer town on the Jersey shore, but we love the occasional trip to the Hamptons and Hudson. I always pack light, especially if I go anywhere with the kids. Less is more. Thankfully NAGHEDI bags are chic, they fold, they squish, and I literally stuff them into my suitcase. I don’t ever like to do more than a carry-on.
