We love catching glimpses of our pieces on women we admire, so we were thrilled the first time we spotted Karla Martínez de Salas with her NAGHEDI tote. The Head of Editorial Content for Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America, Karla showcases the best of the region’s design and culture in the storied publication, championing diverse voices. We’re inspired by the way she challenges the status quo.

Our Summer ‘25 campaign shoot in Mexico City was the perfect opportunity to chat with Karla about her effortless personal style, her bold start in the fashion industry, and some of her favorite local women-owned brands.

QUESTION 01

How did you get started in the fashion industry?

I always wanted to work in fashion but growing up in El Paso, TX, I wasn’t sure how to get my foot in the door, or [what] kinds of jobs were available. One summer I opened up a magazine and started calling the numbers that were listed on the advertisements. A very nice girl picked up [the phone] at Aeffe and asked if I could interview in New York. I begged my parents and flew [there]. I interned the summer between my sophomore and junior years and it was life changing. 

I try not to follow trends too much. I like to wear comfortable clothes that are more classic and I can wear over and over. I like to have fun with classics—
I don’t have a uniform.

QUESTION 02

Who is your fashion icon or muse?

Sofia Coppola or Princess Caroline of Monaco. 


QUESTION 03

Which summer trend are you most excited about?

I feel like it’s always summer somewhere in Mexico, so I would say fun summer prints.

QUESTION 04

How do you describe your own personal style?

I try not to follow trends too much. 
I like to wear comfortable clothes that are more classic and I can wear over and over. I like to have fun with classics—I don’t have a uniform. Sometimes I feel like wearing skirts or dresses and other times I just want to wear jeans. The one thing I won’t do is wear something unflattering just because it's a trend.

QUESTION 05

What are 
your top three recommendations 
for a first time visitor to Mexico City?

I love Onora, a design shop founded by Maria Eladia Hagerman and Maggie Galton. They work with artisan women around Mexico. Perla Valtierra. [I’m] obsessed with her pottery. Lorena Saravia is a great Mexican designer. Montserrat Messeguer makes great cowboy boots!

 I’ve been carrying my NAGHEDI to travel non-stop; inside is my small NAGHEDI, computer, toiletries, always a book, chargers of all kinds, passports, and travel documents!
