This month, we sat down with Allison Evans and Kelly Love, co-founders of Branch Basics, a leader in clean living and non-toxic cleaning essentials. What began as a personal search for healthier lifestyles led them to create powerful yet gentle alternatives to conventional cleaning products.

QUESTION 01

What originally inspired you to start Branch Basics?

I started Branch Basics alongside my aunt and best friend with one mission in mind: to help people heal. It’s not often you hear about a cleaning product company founded on a health-only mission, but that’s what makes us different. We want to help spread information about the importance of removing toxins from your home, thus allowing your body to thrive, and our products are a vehicle for that mission.

QUESTION 02

If someone wants to start making their home healthier, what’s the first swap you recommend? 

Cleaning, of course! Ironically, the products we clean with are often some of the most toxic things we bring inside our homes, creating immense indoor pollution, so switching to a safe alternative that works is key to creating a healthy home.

What are three simple swaps to make a home healthier right now?

Replace scented candles with unscented beeswax. Replace scented personal care products with fragrance-free (or at least essential oils instead of “fragrance” or “parfum”). And of course, swap all cleaning products for Branch Basics.

How do you clean your NAGHEDI bags?

Cleaning our NAGHEDI bags is so satisfying! We soak them in lukewarm water overnight with a teaspoon of our Concentrate or Laundry Powder + a scoopful of Oxygen Boost. All our products are color-safe, but we always recommend testing an inconspicuous spot first, especially when using our Oxygen Boost and Laundry Powder, which can have a whitening effect if the item isn’t colorfast. Our Concentrate is best for washing delicate materials and colors.
