OUR STORY

Founded by Sara Naghedi in 2016, NAGHEDI introduced the original handwoven neoprene tote, defining a new category of versatile handbags made for work, travel, and everything in between. Our footwear collection, launched in 2024, is a natural extension of the line, showcasing the versatility of NAGHEDI’s signature handwoven neoprene. Known for our timeless design and distinctive craftsmanship, NAGHEDI elevates the everyday.

MEET OUR FOUNDER SARA NAGHEDI 

I founded NAGHEDI with the desire to make everyday style a little more effortless while reducing fashion waste through lasting design. People often ask how I got started, since my design career didn’t follow the “typical” path. After finishing my law degree I couldn’t ignore my lifelong creative side. I turned to handbags as an entry point to the industry. I designed private-label accessories for nearly two decades, but eventually felt creatively unfulfilled and increasingly frustrated by the wastefulness of fast fashion trends.

I designed the St. Barths Tote at my dining room table in 2015, while I was pregnant with my daughter. It was the bag I couldn’t find for myself: a modern, versatile carryall that would transcend trends. NAGHEDI, the first line of handwoven neoprene bags, launched the following year. Since then, we’ve expanded into footwear and small accessories, all made with the same dedication to craftsmanship, function, and style.

OUR STORY

The NAGHEDI story began with a strip of neoprene. While working with a sample for another project, Sara saw the potential to reimagine the popular performance material as a luxury textile, designing a timeless, artisan-quality piece made for modern life. Sara continues to innovate new silhouettes and categories, while staying true to her vision of creating timeless wardrobe essentials that reduce the need for excess. 

Since our debut in 2016, our bags and shoes have been selected by leading boutiques and department stores worldwide, including Bloomingdales and Saks in the United States; Liberty and Selfridges in London, and Samaritaine in Paris, among others.

Our bags, accessories, and shoes are meant to go wherever life takes you while looking elegant in the process, from the office to dinner, from school drop-off to the playground, from the plane to the beach. Comfortable to wear and versatile to style, our bags are easy to care for and pack flat for travel or storage. Designed for real life, they make your everyday feel effortless, elevated, and organized.

Our shoe collection debuted in 2024, after Sara recognized the need for a sandal more elevated than rubber, but more versatile than leather. We now offer a full assortment of sandals, flats, and event-ready styles all featuring our signature handwoven neoprene and expert craftsmanship. Like our bags, our shoes are designed to be woven into the fabric of your everyday life.

THE NAGHEDI DIFFERENCE

We are a female-founded, majority female-led, slow fashion brand that prioritizes ethics, craft, and quality. Our philosophy has been grounded in slow fashion principles from the start. Since our very first tote, every NAGHEDI bag has been woven by hand in small batches by skilled artisans who work from home, producing just one to two bags per day. Each collection is made to order in limited quantities to minimize waste.

We see timeless design as a measure of sustainability. In 2024, we introduced our Waste Not recycling program, encouraging customers to send pre-loved NAGHEDI bags back to us, to reduce textile waste in landfills. In addition, our packaging, from boxes to poly bags, is made from recycled and biodegradable materials. We prioritize progress over perfection, and we continue to update and refine our efforts to reduce waste across our business.
